Jesuit Identity
St. Ignatius Parish is a Roman Catholic parish with a Jesuit tradition. As a Jesuit parish, we are a welcoming community of families and friends from all walks of life, coming from all corners of the Portland, Oregon area, and serving in the Catholic Archdiocese of Portland. Ignatian Spirituality inspires us to find God’s loving presence in the world and to grow in relationship with Jesus Christ. St. Ignatius Parish is staffed by Jesuit priests of the USA West Province of the Society of Jesus.
As a Jesuit Parish, our mission supports the Four Universal Apostolic Preferences of the Society of Jesus. The Universal Apostolic Preferences are the fruit of a process of discernment lasting almost two years. All Jesuits were invited to take part and in addition our mission partners. It concluded with a confirmation from Pope Francis in a special meeting with Fr. General Arturo Sosa.
The Portland area, home to the only Jesuit parish in Oregon, also hosts many other fruitful works born from Ignatian spirituality. Besides the many ministries of St. Ignatius Church and School, there are other vibrant Jesuit works in Oregon seeking to "find God in all things."
